About The Book Separated recently from an ill tempered and wife who only nagged him for the past 13 years, rich businessman Mohan Kumar, chooses to give his life a new meaning. He has convinced himself that lust forms the basis of love. Kumar embarks on a daring plan - he will place an advertisement to pay women to share his life and bed, not always in that order. Thus begins his journey of unbridled and easy sexuality, with some of the most remarkable women Kumar ever came across. Sarojini Bharadwaj enters his life, a demure and coy university professor from a small town in Haryana, who surprises Kumar with her sexual energy and ardour. So does Molly Gomes, the vivacious masseuse from Goa, a mistress of sensual desire. Then there is Susanthika Goonatilleke, a diminutive Sri Lankan seductress. Kumar, after the end of each fling and before the beginning of the next, finds comfort in the seasoned charms of his obedient maid Dhanno and in memories of his past lovers. He is especially haunted by the American Jessica Browne, to whom he surrendered his virginity and Yasmeem Wanchoo, an older Pakistani woman. Ace writer Khushwant Singh writes about a seemingly endless celebration of passion, love and sex in The Company of Women. The book borders on electric eroticism but never transcends into soft porn. The book is available in paperback and was published in 2000. Key Features The story is a modern day morality tale with a lesson in AIDS as a result of promiscuity. The Company of Women has also been translated into Kannada by Ravi Benagere.
